Must-haves never hide a marina silently. Turn one on and we list each marina it removes, and why.

Also listed, not confirmed: Hickory Creek Marina, (479) 751-7366. Listed by the Corps of Engineers, but its website is a parked domain, we found no Google listing for the marina, and a March 2024 storm flipped one of its docks. Call before you plan around it.

Why the slip you pick matters

July 1, 2020

The day the Corps of Engineers stopped accepting requests for new private dock slips and new marina slips on Beaver Lake. The lake had reached its safe boating capacity, so for most owners an existing marina slip is the way onto the water.

Dry hull between trips, ready when you are. Ask which slips take a lift.

Marina slip

Fuel and help close by. Expect a waitlist at popular marinas.

Your own private dock

Only for owners of adjoining land in areas zoned for limited development.

Trailer and ramp

No slip fee, but you launch and haul out every trip.

The decisions, in order

What to ask every marina

The same seven questions drive the ranking above and the tabs in each marina's details. Take them on your visit.

  1. 1

    Where on the lake?

How long is the drive from home on a Friday night?

  2. 2

    Will my boat fit?

What slip sizes do you have, and which would fit my boat (length, beam, weight)?

  3. 3

Can I keep it on a lift?

Are boat lifts allowed in your slips? Which slips?

  4. 4

    What will it cost?

What is the annual rate for my slip size, and when is it due?

  5. 5

Will my boat be looked after?

Can I buy fuel here? Is there a pump-out?

  6. 6

What is it like to be there?

Is there food on site or nearby by boat?

  7. 7

Is it open when I am?

Are you open year-round? What changes in winter?

Before you sign

Know before you sign

  1. 1

    Get on a waitlist early

Prairie Creek, Lost Bridge and Starkey say they keep a waitlist for slips.

  2. 2

Ask which slips allow a lift

And which brands the marina permits, who installs it, and whether it stays yours if you move.

  3. 3

    Check the contract dates

War Eagle: annual, April 1 to March 31. Lost Bridge: annual, May 1 to April 30. Starkey: annual, renews automatically unless you give 30 days' written notice; limited month-to-month.

  4. 4

Plan for high and low water

Lake levels rise and fall. Ask how the docks handle high water and a drawdown.

Questions

Beaver Lake marina FAQs

How many marinas are on Beaver Lake?

Seven. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lists Prairie Creek, Rocky Branch, Horseshoe Bend, Hickory Creek, War Eagle, Lost Bridge and Starkey, each inside a Corps park. We couldn't confirm Hickory Creek's current services, so call before you go. Source

Can I get a new boat slip or private dock on Beaver Lake?

Not a new one. On July 1, 2020 the Corps stopped accepting requests for new private dock slips and marina slips because the lake had reached its safe boating capacity, and its dock page still says new slips are not available. Your options are an existing marina slip (several marinas keep waitlists) or an existing permitted private dock. Source

Can I put a boat lift in a marina slip on Beaver Lake?

At several marinas, yes. Prairie Creek Marina says select slips can take a boat lift, Lost Bridge Marina sells boat and PWC lifts to its slip holders, and Starkey Marina rents a marina-owned boat lift and jet ski lifts. Ask which slips allow a lift, which lift brands the marina permits, and who installs it. Source

Do Beaver Lake marinas have waitlists?

Several do. Prairie Creek Marina is operating from a waitlist, Starkey Marina asks new tenants to join its waitlist, and Lost Bridge Marina keeps a waitlist for some slip sizes. With the Corps no longer accepting requests for new slips, it pays to get on a list early. Source

How much does a boat slip cost on Beaver Lake?

It depends on the marina and the slip size, and most marinas don't publish rates. Starkey Marina does: as of October 2026 its annual rates run from $2,286 plus tax for a 20 ft open slip to $9,239 plus tax for an 18 x 60 ft covered slip. Source

Which Beaver Lake marinas are open year-round?

Lost Bridge Marina says its store and fuel are open 8am to 6pm in the off-season, and Rocky Branch Marina publishes winter hours. Others publish summer hours only or say hours vary after Labor Day, so call ahead from fall to spring. Source

How we score

100 points, published

Points come only from what a marina publishes on its website, its Google listing or a Corps of Engineers page. A fact we cannot find scores zero and shows as "Not published."

Your priorities count 2.5 times. Pick a starting town and closeness adds up to 20 points: full marks within 10 miles, none at 40 miles or more.

No marina can pay for a higher score. Econo Lift makes boat lifts. Marinas that sell or install Econo Lift lifts are labeled "Econo Lift dealer," and that label never changes a score. "Lift-ready" counts lifts of any brand.

  • Slip options (25): Rents annual slips (40%), covered slips (25%), publishes its slip sizes (15%), power at the slip (10%), dry or winter storage (10%).
  • Lift-ready slips (15): Boat lifts are offered or allowed in slips. Any brand counts.
  • Boat care (20): Fuel (35%), a service or repair department (35%), pump-out (15%), published security or staff on site (15%).
  • Things to do on site (15): Boat rentals (30%), restaurant or grill (25%), ship store (20%), lodging or camping at the park (25%).
  • Boater reviews (15): Google rating, adjusted so a handful of reviews can't outrank hundreds (each marina is blended with 50 reviews at 4.3 stars). 3.5 stars or lower scores 0, 5.0 scores full marks.
  • Year-round access (10): The marina publishes year-round operation.
